History of Artistic Dance Centre

The Artistic Dance Centre was founded in 1960 by Thomas F. Waters, who is a member of Dance Masters of America. He is also a former faculty member of the International Cultural Dance Centre in Athens, Greece.  A lifetime dancer, Tom opened his first studio at age 11 in Brunswick, Maryland.  He has operated several dance studios all over Frederick County, finally settling in Mt Pleasant with his wife, Karen. The current studio in Mt Pleasant has been in operation since 1980. Although Tom is retired from teaching, Tom's techniques and joy of dance remain in effect through the teaching by his wife Karen, and children Nathan and Lauren. With four sets of dancing feet, the Waters family and the Artistic Dance Centre are celebrating their 49th season. This studio has been a staple in the development of dancers and growth of the new studios in Frederick County for many years.  Taking the lessons learned from within the walls of their home, the Waters family continues to share the joy and passion for dance with students young and old, and look forward to doing so for many years to come!
